Once Upon a Time, or, Fairy-tale motives in The Witcher?
HRADECKÁ, Simona
Bachelor thesis is dedicated to the fantasy cycle The Witcher, written by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Thesis points out fairy tale motives. Andrzej Sapkowski has inspired himself by other worldwide known writers, such as brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen or Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. These motives are most evident in the part of the cycle regarding the stories. Thesis focuses on stories in which are individual fairy tale motives very apparent and on those where the motives are seen only marginally. The main source for my bachelor thesis are classical fairy tales, Andrzej´s Sapkowski´s stories and scientific publications defining the genre of fantasy and fairy tales. First part of the thesis is dedicated to both of the literature genres, where their general characteristic is outlined. Bachelor thesis serves as a basic reflection of the fairy tales motives in The Witcher, by which Andrzej Sapkowski has inspired himself in classical fairy tales and incorporates them into concrete stories.

Diatopic changes in the range of characters of the French-Czech fairy tales
Rozhonová, Maria ; Jančík, Jiří (advisor) ; Fučíková, Milena (referee)
THE ABSTRAKT This thesis aims to cover typological differences between the fairy tale characters from French (Charles Perrault, Marie-Catherine d'Aulnoy) and Czech (Božena Němcová, Karel Jaromír Erben) folklore fairy tales. First, the author presents the definition of fairy tale (Vladimir Yakovlevič Propp, Karel Čapek), which is defined from the point of view of different theories. This thesis covers only the characters from folklore fairy tales, therefore the folklore fairy tale will be shortly defined as well. The thesis also analyses the differences of the behaviour and the portrait of the characters appearing in thematically similar fairy tales. At the end, the author creates a summary of all achieved knowledge and the final generalized comparison of the fairy tale characters. key words: fairy tale characters, folklore fairy tale, Charles Perrault, Marie-Catherine d'Aulnoy, Božena Němcová, Karel Jaromír Erben, brothers Grimm, Vladimir Jakovlevič Propp, Karel Čapek, attributes of characters, morphology of fairy tale, Finnish school, folklore, function
The poetics of space in the fairy tales of the Grimm brothers and in the selected fairy tales of Karel Jaromír Erben
Ledinská, Šárka ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Vaněk, Václav (referee)
The poetics of space is a very interesting field, which has been so far marginalized from the theoretic point of view in comparison with other types of the poetics of literary work. Fragmentary information devoted to this theme has often been hidden in theoretic works that applied the poetics of space to some specific literary works. To be able to start focusing myself on the poetics of space in fairy tales, I had to lay the basis for the poetics of space in the first part of my thesis. The basis is built by the chapters in which I was concerned with the poetics of literary work and where I collected, organized and made transparent actual theoretic information about the poetics of space and its parts, space and place. I used these chapters for the specification of the terms used in my thesis. That specification enabled me to focus on the poetics of space in the fairy tales in the second part of thesis. As my research material I chose Grimms' fairy tales and eight Erben's fairy tales. I used this material to verify the relevance of particular hypotheses. In terms of my research I concerned on topics such as the poetics of space from the wider and the closer point of view, the boundaries of the fairy tales' space, the description and the layout of the space, the main and the side character in the...
